Persuasive Speech Essay Example for Free
Persuasive Speech Essay Mr. Byrne Persuasive Speech Imagine that you trained all your life for that special moment of playing in your first NHL game. At the beginning of your first shift in the game suddenly another playerââ¬â¢s stick comes up and strikes you in the eye. This incident ends your career. This could have been prevented if you wore a visor. I think visors should be mandatory in the NHL in order to improve a playerââ¬â¢s safety. Statistics have proven players who wear visors in the NHL play less aggressive. There are many incidents involving sticks and pucks going into playerââ¬â¢s faces. A recent incident occurred between Philadelphiaââ¬â¢s Chris Pronger and Torontoââ¬â¢s Mikhail Grabovski. Furthermore, two years ago a former NHL player Brad May, Gave a speech supporting the use of visors. Visors have been proven to improve a playerââ¬â¢s play and helped players become less aggressive. From the 2010-2011 to the 2011-2012 there has been a 10% increase in the amount of players wearing a visor. Players in the NHL are starting to realize how important visors are. Rutgers University did a survey to find out if players played less aggressive when wearing a visor. This survey was conducted after the 2000-2001 season and the Universityââ¬â¢s theory was correct. According to the study done the average amount of penalty minutes that a player wearing a visor had were 30 penalty minutes while players not wearing a visor had 50 penalty minutes. Wearing visors help prevent horrible face injuries. On October 24th, 2011 the Toronto Maple Leafs were playing the Philadelphia Flyers in a regular season game. Torontoââ¬â¢s Mikhail Grabovski and Philadelphiaââ¬â¢s Chris Pronger were involved in a frightening incident. During the first period, Mikhail Grabovski was waiting for his teammate to pass him the puck, He took a shot on net, but the goaltender stopped it. What Mikhail didnââ¬â¢t realize is that on his follow through he nailed Chris Pronger on the corner of his eye. Chris Pronger skated off the ice screaming in pain. Bob Mackenzie, a broadcaster from TSN said that Chris Pronger would of have been free of injury if he had worn wore a visor. Players themselves are speaking ut in support of visors being mandatory. In 2009, Brad May, a former NHL player of the Detroit Red Wings gave a speech in favor of players wearing visors.

The Rise Of Violent Crime In Canada Essay -- essays research papers f
The Rise of Violent Crime In Canada Violent crime in Canada is on the rise in Canada as well as the types of violent crimes being committed against the public. It has been on the rise for many, many years. I believe and intend to prove in the following essay that it is societies responsibility for the rise of violent crime with their unwillingness and inability to effectively deal with the current trend in our society. In the last few years, a slight dip in violent crime has been noted, but we must view this with skepticism as no official statistics are available. As well as this could be an example of society realizing that the Criminal Justice System is not effectively dealing with the trend of violence in Canada. This would be true by way of the fact that people are not reporting these crimes to the police. Generally all the statistics that are gathered and used by the police are based upon reported crime and no conjecture on unreported crime is included in these official statistics. To fully understand what violent crime is, we must first define what violent crime is in actuality. All to often, people in Canadian society refer to general wrongdoing as being a crime. A simple example of this is when grocery stores all raise their prices for certain food products. People then refer very casually to this act as a crime or that these prices are criminal. Individuals in our Society often have a fear of being victimized by others, such as the government, friends and or strangers. This fear is often equated with crime since all crimes have a winner and a loser or victim as would be the legal term. This equation often makes involvement in these acts of "crime" a personal thing. Which results in stronger feelings and sometimes irrational thinking towards the whole subject of crime. Many times people are not reporting these crimes because it is their duty in a society to help uphold the laws of ones society. In actuality, they are reporting the crime for needed compensation whether it be for medical costs or lost wages. Another reason some people report crimes is because they are doing it as an avenging act to extract a revenge they could not otherwise get for themselves. This is a main reason in the fact that police officers need to investigate reported crimes and determine if a crime had actually been committed o... ...otions and problems. Social upheavals have occurred in recent times and gender roles have been obscured causing more problems with the continuity of society. Values and ideas are being taught to new members of a society which are old and out dated methods. This could be a causing factor into which violence is increasing. As frustration increases and a lack of understanding of how to interact among different people in a society is gone, the problems appear to be mounting and getting bigger everyday. The social methods of control are falling behind and chaos is coming out as a leader in our society. Bibliography Fleming, Thomas. The New Crimonolgies in Canada. Apartment Complex Analysis Project Description: In this project, you will create functions that calculate statistical data for apartment complexes. You will then filter the data based on multiple criteria and calculate the payments for a loan on a new complex. Instructions: For the purpose of grading the project you are required to perform the following tasks: Step| Instructions| Points Possible| 1| Start Excel. Download, save, and open the Excel workbook named Exploring_e07_Grader_EOC. xlsx. 0| 2| On the Summary worksheet, in cell H14, enter a nested function that will return Need to remodel as the result if the apartment is unoccupied and was last remodeled before 2005. Otherwise, the function should return No change as the result. Copy the function down through H26. | 10| 3| In cell B6, insert a function to calculate the total number of units in the apartment complex in A6. Be sure to enter the criteria range as an absolute reference. Copy the function down through B10. | 10| 4| I n cell C6, insert a function that will calculate the number of occupied units in the apartment complex in A6.Be sure to enter the criteria ranges as absolute references. Copy the function down through C10. | 10| 5| In cell D6, calculate the percentage of units that are occupied in the Lakeview Apartments complex. Copy the formula down through D10. | 6| 6| In cell E6, insert a function that will rank the value in D6 based on the occupancy rates of all five apartment complexes, in descending order. Enter the range as an absolute reference. Copy the function down through E10. | 10| 7| In cell F6, insert a function that will sum the potential rent (i. e. the total rent if all units are occupied) for the apartment complex in A6. Copy the function down through F10. | 10| 8| In cell G6, insert a function that will sum the actual amount of rent (i. e. total rent for occupied units) for the apartment complex in A6. | 8| 9| Copy the function in G6 down through G10. | 2| 10| In cell H6, calcul ate the percentage of potential rent collected for the Lakeview Apartments complex. Copy the formula down through H10. | 6| 11| Enter the value 4 in cell B2. In B3, insert a nested function that will look up the ranking entered in cell B2 and return the respective apartment complex.Make sure the sample ranking of 4 returns the correct apartment complex indicated in the Summary Statistics area. | 6| 12| Enter the value 1 in cell B2 and observe how the INDEX function returns the apartment complex that is ranked first. | 2| 13| On the Database worksheet, perform an advanced filter on the list in the range A11:H24, using the criteria range A2:H4. Filter the data in place. | 10| 14| On the Loan worksheet, in cell E5, insert a PMT function, using the values in E2:E4 for the arguments. | 10| 15| Save the workbook.
